Muir Beach, northern California, in January at low tide
Muir Beach is a beautiful, secluded and off-the-beaten-track beach just north of San Francisco. Low tide reveals a mass of tide pools (rock pools) alive with shellfish and starfish, and rocks barnacled with mussels and the sand honeycomb made by unseen sea worms.
