Day of the Dead (Spanish: Día de Muertos) is a Mexican holiday which is observed throughout Mexico, and also in expatriate communities around the world. The holiday is one where families gather to remember, pray for, and celebrate the life of family members and who have passed on. The holiday takes place from October 31 to November 2, the days of Hallowe'en, All Saints and All Souls' days.
The altars made as part of the celebration ("ofrendas"), are highly decorated with favourite foods, drinks, posessions and other mementos of the deceased. Decorated skulls often play a part!
